New visuals from Robert‘s Love Letter album.

This year I feel that numerous stars have come under fire for “copying” other artists. From Nicki Minaj jacking Lil Kim, Rihanna being sued by David LaChapelle for her S&M video,  Trey Songz jacking R. Kelly’s style and vocal arrangement. The list can really go on.

Now Beyonce’s “epic” Billboard performance of Run The World has come under fire for her “copying” Lorella Cuccatini’s Samero 2010 performance. If you are a real fan or music junkie, you will know that Beyonce and Destiny’s Child are notorious  of being “influenced” by other acts (large and small) and giving props to others most times after it has been exposed on the internet. (Sometimes they didn’t give proper credit at all.) I digress, Beyonce responded with the following:

‘My makeup artist showed me the performance of Lorella Cuccarini a year ago, and it inspired me so much’, she went onto reveal ‘I then met with the talented people who worked on it. The technology and concept were so genius. Thank God for YouTube or I would have never been exposed to something so inspiring. I never worked so hard on anything in my life as that performance for the Billboard Awards’.

Update: I am not trying to take anything away from Beyonce’s performance. I am talking about the difference between copying someone and being influenced by someone. The examples I posted above are just examples of individual’s who have been accused of “copying” this year.

My question is what is the difference from copying someone and being inspired by them? What is your opinion on originality and is it really dead? What is the difference between an artist, star and musician? I will post my thoughts later but I am interested to hear what you guys think.

Without a doubt, Robert Kelly is one of the most prolific Singer/Songwriter of my generation. I sure wish Marvin Gaye was here. He would LOVE Robert. They don’t make a good love song these days, and it’s refreshing to see Kelly hasn’t forgot how.  This is a track, ( if you did what I did, and purchased the Love Letter album from the store) that was not on the album. It’s available only on Kellz’s Love Letter (Deluxe Edition). No need to worry, nothing escapes a real R. Kelly fan!
