Fashawn – Ode to Illmatic (Mixtape)
by T Marko on Jun 12th, 2010Read More » TagsVery very sorry we didn’t get this to you earlier. Internships/10-hour shifts and things of that sort got in the way today, so our apologies for the slow day on the site. Fashawn’s much talked about project is finally here. If there is somebody who can take on the legacy that comes with this album, I think Fashawn is definitely someone who can take this challenge full steam ahead. Could it be a mistake to take on what many consider rap’s greatest album? It could, but it could also cement Fashawn in people’s heads as a great rapper that is here to stay for years to come. That’s for you guys to decide, so let us know. Was it a good decision? Did Fashawn hold his own? Props to XXL for presenting. Hit the jump for full artwork.

by J Vento on May 19th, 2010Read More » TagsHardKnockTV caught up with Nas and Damian Marley to talk about how K’naan influenced the making of Distant Relatives, why they picked Nneka as the opening act of the tour and about Nas jumping on the remix to Heartbeat. The interview concludes with Nick Huff Barili asking Nas about his lyric on Ludacris’ I Do it for Hip Hop “(They say I’m so low key, I’m socially awkward”). After the credits Nick asks Nas about the possibility of him doing a hip hop/jazz album with his father.

Nas & Damian Marley – Ancient People Feat. Junior Reid
by T Marko on May 18th, 2010Read More » TagsSpeaking of Distant Relatives…this track titled “Ancient People” is the bonus track that all those itunes users got when they bought the album today. Personally, I prefer the hard copy, but that’s just me. Anyways, this song, like the rest of the album, is nothin’ but dope artistry at its finest.

Nas & Damian Marley – The Promised Land ft. Dennis Brown
by Mr. 5 Star on Apr 21st, 2010Read More » TagsHere’s the latest leak off the upcoming Distant Relatives album from Nas & Damian Marley. This one features Dennis Brown. I’m impressed with the three leaks I’ve heard so far. Distant Relatives is set to drop May 25th. **UPDATE: I just realized Levi Guy disrespected them by posting this under their LA Leakers interview. I though it deserved it’s own post….Yes. Shots.

OkayplayerTV: Nas and Damian Marley Part I (Video)
by Mr. 5 Star on Apr 6th, 2010Read More » TagsOkayplayer had the privilege of catching up with the legendary NaS and Damian Marley while down in Austin, TX at the 2010 SxSW Music Conference. Here is part 1 where the guys talk about how the Distant Relatives collaboration (in stores May 18th) came to be, the overall aesthetic of the album, health care, and Barack Obama after completing one year in office. Let me explain that it was a bit of a challenge at the time for us to get Nas and Damian together so we actually ended up interviewing Nas first and just as we finished, Damian entered. We then interviewed Damian and that is why Nas took a back seat. There is a second part of the interview with Nas coming later this week.

Gil Scott-Heron – New York is Killing Me (Remix) ft. Nas
by Mr. 5 Star on Apr 5th, 2010Read More » TagsI’m not gonna front like I listen to Gil Scott-Heron on a regular basis, so I’m basically stealing theFADER’s whole description:
Gil Scott-Heron’s new album I’m New Here is full of dark and foreboding tales that make his home city sounds like an apocalypse epicenter, but add Nasty Nas to the mix actually talking about the apocalypse and numerology, as is one of his specialties, and you’ve got one of the more epic New York matchups of all time. As you may have guessed, Scott-Heron and Nas’ pops, Olu Dara, are acquainted, so there’s history there, too. Basically, if you’ve never been to the Big Apple and want to know what it feels like to live here on not the best of days, “New York is Killing Me” is all you need.
