New iPhone Music Application: FLYP’T
by Levi Guy on Oct 20th, 2009Read More » TagsMy homey Brent sent me some information about “FLYP’T” today and I had to share it with you all. Personally, I think that this iPhone application is one of the best music applications to date. Check out the write up below and decide for yourself. The day has finally come where all music consumers (with rhythm and without) can truly customize their music and share it with the world. FLYPT offers a new means of experiencing your music on a unique and revolutionary platform. Through the platform that FLYPT establishes music is once again encouraged to be purchased, and empowers the consumer through having the ability to truly own their music. FLYPT enters a booming I Phone application industry that has been described as the next step towards the new wave of business. With all major music companies on board for the project, October 26th is the date to watch when a true and easy way to customize your favorite songs is accomplished.
FLYPT offers not only a unique and addicting game like application to customize your music, but also facilitates a community through its website. In today’s society people want to be able to truly customize their lifestyle, and music is a way that many people Identify who they are and where they fit in. FLYPT offers consumers the ability to take an existing song that they enjoy, or might not enjoy, and customize its layout and structure. The FLYP’T application lets users record their moving of lyrical parts and phrases around in a song, as well as editing how those phrases trigger.
Once you have customized or “FLYP’T” your musical creation FLYPT then allows you the ability to share this music on FLYPT.net. The network allows user to post updates and interact with each other as well as give kudos to their favorite FLYPT music versions. The music will be streamed on their webpage when uploaded and top flypers will be incentives through promotions. Users also have the ability to search for FLYPT versions of their favorite artist’s songs, according to kudos and genre.
FLYP’T offers a means for artist to sell their music in a way that is new and exciting. Consumers will feel part of the creation process and artist will receive direct feedback that other means of music distribution channels don’t allow, while also establishing a place for fans to interact.
“FLYP’T was created to give users the ability to change the way a song is structured in a easy and fun way” says FLYP’T CEO Gregory Lowe. The application works by giving the user 12 pre selected pads that upon touching them trigger a phrase from the song selected. For example Black Eyed Peas “Boom Boom Pow” the phrase “They be Jockin my style” will be triggered upon the touch. All phrases also have a FX ability, phrases will have the ability to be screwed(slowed down), rolled(sped up and repeated), muffled( to create a club effect) and spun back(reverse effect on the phrase). Users will be able to trigger these phrases over the instrumental of the song and be able to save them in real time while also allowing you to play its regular version, all for only $1.99 for the app and $.99 per song through in-app purchasing.
FLYP’T has now made music fun again with this application. Offering songs from all catalogs FLYP’T becomes a platform and not just a “one off’ artist app. October 26th is the date to mark your calendars.”
Below, you can check out an instructional video of the application and a preview of what to expect. Enjoy.

Young Jeezy x ESPO Complex Magazine Cover
by Levi Guy on Sep 22nd, 2009Read More » TagsYesterday, J Vento showed you the behind the scenes footage of the making of Complex Magazine’s October/November with the Clipse, and today I am showing you all an exclusive look at their second cover with Young Jeezy and Philly graf kingpin ESPO. Below is an excerpt of the interview.
Courtesy of Complex Magazine:
So how do you connect with the blues? It’s not like before.
Young Jeezy: You know how you get on and you mad talented and that’s all that fucking matters? You might be the weirdest muthafucka in the world, but you got talent? I’m vice-versa. A lot of people question how talented I am. But I’m a real dude and I know real things and I’ve seen real people get their head blown off. I really came from that, so I’m gonna have to always be able to adapt to it. I eat where everybody eat; it ain’t no secluded shit. I ride around in my car by myself all the time. Niggas don’t bumrush me, niggas come gab me up: “Just keep doing what you’re doing.” Once you lose that, then how can I make music? Who am I making music for? Not the people staying here. [Laughs.] They ain’t gonna relate to me, shit!
So when you’re writing rhymes, and shit’s starting to connect, how do you feel?
Young Jeezy: Oh man, I get this shit in my stomach, it’s almost like butterflies.
People probably understimate your level as an artist.
Young Jeezy: Yeah, but you know, it’s always that fourth album. It’s like, niggas question Jay, niggas question Tip, niggas question Wayne, you know what I mean? It’s that fourth album: “Can you do it again?” Like I did it the first time. Came back, The Inspiration, done it again. The Recession, done it again. TM103, we’re doing it again! And it ain’t about a fan base—these are not fans. I look at this shit like family, like when you talk to your cousin: “Get your money.” But it ain’t what you got, it’s what you keep.”

Fame Kills Starring Kanye West and Lady Gaga Tour Dates
by Levi Guy on Sep 15th, 2009Read More » TagsLooks like Rolling Stone was the first to have official tour dates of the upcoming “Fame Kills Starring Kanye West and Lady Gaga” tour. I am excited to see that both artists are going to be performing together, with complimentary sets and no opening act. It seems that both artists have mutual respect for each other’s art, so both decided that no opening act was necessary, which will give the fans more of each artist.
Personally, I am a huge fan of Lady Gaga and her art, and as I have said before, I am a Kanye stan, so you can imagine how excited I am for this tour.
However, we must all shoe gratitude to DJ Reflex because it was him who introduced each other last year.

Common x The Roots Perform at the Hennessy Artistry Tour (Video)
by Levi Guy on Sep 13th, 2009Read More » TagsAbove and below is some footage from the Hennessy Artistry Tour stop in Chicago, Illinois last night. Though I was on deck for the entire show, I was unable to upload my videos yet due to my internet connection today. Shouts to Andrew for the videos, and more so, shouts to Perla and my homey Brent, from ICED Media for making it happen.
REVIEW: I cannot even begin to tell you all what happened last night in full details, so I will just show you via the videos above and below. However, I will just say that last night, during the Hennessy Artistry Tour, was one of the best nights of my life. Seeing Common, the Roots, Colin Munroe, Jeremih, Zoe Kravitz and Heavy D all perform in the same room, on the same stage was absolutely ridiculous.
The night started with Zoe Kravitz and Elevator Fight doing a few numbers, which led into Colin Munroe’s set, having the Roots as his band. Though their sets were enjoyable, the night really started for me when Common and the Roots began to perform together. Com and the Roots played a fantastic show and kept the names coming with having Chicago native, Jeremih, play a few songs and then having hip hop legend, Heavy D, come out and perform old and new songs for the crowd.
Personally, I have been sleeping on the Roots for far too long, and seeing them play rekindled my love for them. Also, if you know me, you know that Common is one of my favorite MCs ever, along with Kanye and Lupe, so seeing him live was a pure treat. A personal highlight was when Com and Roots went into I Used to Love H.E.R. Plus, since Hennessy was sponsoring the tour, everyone was given free drinks all night. Can’t go wrong, eh?
If they stop through your town, try and get out and see this performance because it is a truly cannot miss.
UPDATE: I have added more video footage after the cut, so check out some more footage after the break. Shouts to GoWhereHipHop.com.

Just Copped Three 6 Mafia – “Last 2 Walk” Album….
by Mr. 5 Star on Jun 24th, 2008Read More » TagsYea, I just copped Three 6 Mafia’s album, “Last 2 Walk” from Meijer. Why’d I make a post about it? Well, plenty reasons….
- The last album I liked enough to buy was Eminem’s Encore….so me to buy an album is a big thing. I’m starting to realize that we need to stop complaining about hip hop being dead and support the good music artists who keep it coming and hopefully these lame ringtones fools will die off. I know Three 6 probably won’t do that well the first week, but at least I helped.
- I was kinda disappointed with the PHYSICAL aspect of the album. As you can see, the case is PAPER. I HATE paper album covers, this thing will be bent before the end of the day. Second, there is NOTHING inside. There IS NO BOOK, NO CREDITS, NO PICTURES besides the inside of the case, just the CD itself. Well, it was only $8.99, so I guess you get what you pay for. There is a website on the back to get the credits from. The album is hot, but I expected more! If this was a female r&b artist and I didn’t get extra pics I woulda been pissed. But, not that big of a deal here…
- The DVD version was $16.99 at Meijer, so I’m cool on that….
- The last reason I’m posting about this is because I’m always preaching to y’all about buying albums…so I might as well buy one myself. I’m definitely gonna start buying more albums (good ones of course). Albums I personally plan to buy are II Trill, L.A.X., and possibly Paper Trail.
Anyway, I’m done ranting and sounding like the RIAA and all that. I’m out. Part 2 of today’s singles coming up right after this…..STAY TUNED

5 Star Hip Hop.com’s Weekly Album Recommendations
by Mr. 5 Star on Jun 17th, 2008Read More » TagsHey, what’s up people. This is somewhat of a slow week for hip hop album releases. No HUGE names, but still some mentionables. I highly recommend 2 Pistols’ album “Death Before Dishonor”, as it is bangin’ in the whip right now. The CTE camp has Blood Raw dropping his first album “My Life: The True Testimony”. I also forgot to mention KRS-One’s album, “Maximum Strength” last week around all the hype of those big releases last week. I still recommend picking up Bun B’s “II Trill” album, along with the other albums below. Whether you buy a mp3 from itunes, amazon, or the album from the store, support your favorite artists or they won’t be around for long.
If you supported any of your artists recently, make a comment and let the community know what’s hot and what’s not.
