New Generation Boys (NGB) – Drop The Bomb On Em (Soulja Boy Diss)

by Lioness on May 29th, 2010

Now before yall spaze on me for posting these lil kids, I listened to their lyrics and they went in on Soulja Boy. Fast forward to 2:05 min to hear their diss. They feel that Soulja Boy jacked them for their song Pretty Boy Swag.

“How you gonna take a hot song and turn it into hot garbage.”

“How you can’t rap better than some lil kids.”

“It’s sorta like David and Goliath because we the underdog and we ’bout to slay the Giant.”

On a serious note, no one knows if Soulja really sampled them for that crap song that he really thinks is hot or if this is a publicity stunt for NGB. The lil girls have Justin Bieber, it would be cool for lil kids to have a rap group around their age.

Let us know what you think about the diss and their version of Pretty Boy Swag.

Message to Soulja: You better stay away from Richmond cause these dudes said they gonna find you. Ha.

Verse of the Day: Fort Minor – Cigarettes

    by T Marko on Apr 16th, 2010

Mike Shinoda Verse of the Day: Fort Minor Cigarettes

Alright, it’s been quite some time since I last posted a song or verse highlighting it’s high level of lyrical technicality or great content.  So for this one, I’m takin’ it back to the lone Fort Minor album The Rising Tied.  It’s been almost 5 years since the Linkin Park member took his talent on the mic and expanded into the hip-hop world with his group Fort Minor.  Littered with great features from people like Common, Black Thought, Kenna, and John Legend, this album is a classic in my eyes.  I am not afraid to say that the incredible social consciousness and perfectly put-together storytelling on this album make this one of the best hip-hop albums I have listened to.  If you don’t like it, then so be it, but that’s just my opinion.  It’s really a shame that (apart from the mixtape We Major) this album is their owly major work together.  I would have loved to see Mike do another album or two.  These days he’s heavily involved in the art scene, while still working with his band mates in Linkin Park on their upcoming works.  You can catch up with what he’s doing on his website, or follow what he’s up to on his twitter.

So without further ado, I’ll get to the song I chose titled “Cigarettes.”  The song gives us a fresh, and very truthful perspective, comparing hip-hop to cigarettes.  There’s really no need to explain why I chose this song, as you’ll see why when you read it, and if you already know the song, then props to you.  Hit the jump for the rest of the verses and a download of the song.

    Verse 1:

Man I love this rap game, mainly cause its cool,

To add a little spice to the life you’ve been through,

Everyone exaggerates a tiny little bit,

Make that shit sound more gangsta than it really is

You can’t appear weak man/We wanna hear street

We wanna hear you spit your thug over this here beat

Don’t take it as sarcastic/I can’t get enough I’m tellin you,

You can call my bluff if its not rough then I really don’t need it,

I’m not even ashamed/I’ve got too much reality and it’s fillin up my brain,

So sell me on the product/Im addicted to the game

Suck it up like a cigarette, light it up

Kid Cudi to Join Lady Gaga on ‘The Monster Ball’ Tour

by Levi Guy on Oct 15th, 2009

    Lady Gaga

I was crushed once I found out that the Kanye West and Lady Gaga tour was canceled, but it seems as if things are going to turn around for myself and many more people. According to the press release from Interscope Records, Lady Gaga will continue her own, separate tour, entitled The Monster Ball tour, with a supporting/opening act of Cleveland’s own, Kid Cudi. Excited now? I am.

International pop superstar Lady Gaga today announced plans for her next North American tour, entitled “The Monster Ball.” The tour will begin on November 27 in Montreal, and will wind up on January 21, 2010 in Gaga’s hometown, New York City. Kid Cudi will be the supporting act for the entire tour.”

Sidebar: Since Kanye and Gaga are not touring together, this is the second best thing. As I sit here and type, I am thinking of how much art and passion will be poured into all these shows. Seems to me that both Lady Gaga and Kid Cudi exhibit a mass amount of creativity, art, beauty and passion, not to mention fun and energy, into their music and into their performances. Be sure to not miss the show in your area, seeing that both artists are more talented than most around.

Hit the break to check out dates and venues.

Sidebar: Yes, I said December 8th, 2009. The album was pushed back from October 20th to December 8th.  Why? Don’t ask me, but I am not too happy about it. Nonetheless, I will be out that day getting it.

    Drake Talks About ‘Fear’ (Audio)

by Levi Guy on Oct 14th, 2009

In Drake’s song Fear, he raps:

“I never cried when ‘Pac died,  but I probably will when Hov does/ And if my tears hold value, then I would drop one for every single thing he showed us/ And I’ll be standing in a puddle.”

Via telephone, Drake clarified to MTV that the 2Pac mention on the song was not a diss, but instead was an attempt to explain how new he is to hip-hop.

    Courtesy of MTV:

Drake said, unequivocally, he isn’t dissing Tupac Shakur on “Fear.” He’s just pointing out that he was too young to fully feel the impact of the music icon at the time of his passing.

“I never cried when ‘Pac died,” Drake raps on the song from his So Far Gone EP. “But I probably will when Hov does/ And if my tears hold value, then I would drop one for every single thing he showed us/ And I’ll be standing in a puddle.”

“A lot of people also sort of don’t understand the meaning of that line,” Drake said. “It’s not necessarily that I don’t love West Coast hip-hop or that I don’t love ‘Pac now that I’m 22, but that line was just said to show how new I am to hip-hop. And like I said, I was 9 when that happened, so it didn’t really affect me. But that song in general was just one of those things that took awhile to finish because it was an opportunity to say a lot of the things on my mind. That always feels good as a rapper, when you can get your thoughts out.”

Sidebar: Why are people whining about this? I completely concur with Drake on his rap and with his explanation to MTV. Though Pac will forever remain as one of the best in hip-hop, I was not directly affected by his death because I was so young, but seeing Jay or Kanye pass would pull tears from me.

Looks like The Game’s upcoming album, The R.E.D. Album, has an official release date, December 1st, 2009. I don’t know about you, but I am excited to hear this album, seeing that Cool & Dre spoke so highly about it. Plus, its The Game.

by Levi Guy on Oct 13th, 2009

    Soulja boy Tweet 1

    Soulja boy Tweet 2

Sidebar: I am not entirely sure how to take this, seeing that Kanye West is my favorite artist and I believe that Soulja Boy is one of the worst hip hop acts the decade has seen. All I know is that whatever Kanye touches, it is fire, so we shall see. Thoughts?

by Levi Guy on Oct 13th, 2009

Looks like Nylon TV caught up with Kid Cudi in the streets to walk, talk and buy him a pretzel. I imagine an interview or photoshoot of sorts coming from both Nylon and Cudi.

What would you do if you would run into Kid Cudi? We bought him a pretzel.”

by Levi Guy on Oct 8th, 2009

    shyne Shyne is Released, Possibly

Shyne is home, or is he? Most of you have probably heard the news, seeing that I am late with the post, but nonetheless, it deserves a look on here. Looks like MTV is reporting that Shyne is still in custody due to his immigration status.

    According to MTV:

It looks like Shyne’s homecoming is on hold for the moment.

The former Bad Boy rapper (born Jamal Barrow) was scheduled to be released from prison Tuesday (October 6) after serving more than nine years of a 10-year sentence in connection with the 2001 Club New York shooting involving Diddy and Jennifer Lopez.

But his release is now under review, as representatives for the rapper revealed to MTV News that the Brooklyn MC is being detained by U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement at an unspecified facility in Western New York State. Officials are determining whether or not to deport the rapper, who was born in Belize, a rep explained.

Hit the break to read the rest of the report.
