So, not to get anyone too excited or anything like that, but MTV News is reporting that two of the dopest rappers out of New Orleans, Curren$y and Jay Electronica, are teaming up with Mos Def to put together an album. Think about those three going line for line on an entire album. Gives me goosebumps. Apparently, Curren$y met Jay for the first time at Jay’s secret show the other night, and with Mos Def along for the ride, the idea was sprung. I’ll let MTV tell you the rest.
This entry was posted by“Just chillin’” with Dame Dash may have just spawned a rap supergroup project. On Wednesday, at Dash’s new facility (art gallery, TV studio, music studio and more), DD172, critically acclaimed underground lyricist Curren$y told MTV News that he, Jay Electronica and Mos Def have combined forces to start recording an entire album together.
“That’s ridiculous!” Curren$y said. “Jay Electronica is from my city, he’s from New Orleans. I never met homie until I stepped foot in this building. He came here to meet Mos. And Mos, I had only known him for 24 hours prior to that. But genuine people could recognize [each other], it was like, ‘Let’s go.’ ”
Curren$y said Mos came up with the name of “Center Edge Territory” for the trio. When asked exactly what the moniker means, Curren$y would only comment emphatically, “Everything! That’s everything!
“We all know the game is in turmoil. We know the machine messed it up,” he added, explaining why they will be putting their music out independently instead of with a major label. “We know we don’t even need to play that game, especially with access to all of this sh–. We are our own machine.”
So far, Center Edge Territory have recorded six records together, but they have no concrete plans as to when the full-length album will drop.
“The funny thing, it came from just chilling,” Dash said. “If you’re gonna be here [at DD172], there’s no hanging out.
“There’s no reason to be here unless you have the ability to work or you’re working,” Dash explained of the space Mos nicknamed of the “24-Hour Karate School.” “This is like an office where you work in a different way.”

I would just like remind everyone that Curren$y’s newest release, Jet Files, is out today on Amalgam Digital. Please hit up Amalgam’s website (link at the bottom) and purchase, yes, purchase yourself a copy. It is only $9 of your money and the quality of music is well worth the price. Curren$y’s unique New Orleans flow and beat choice makes him one of the best rappers out right now. Pick up Saigon’s Warning Shots 2 while you are at it.

This entry was posted byMTV caught up with Royce Da 5′9″ and discussed some of the rumors floating around about Slaughterhouse getting signed by Eminem. From what it sounds like, this situation is a definite possibility. Nothing is final yet, but we could be seein some collabs goin on soon. All of this hype is gettin me pumped.
Sidebar: Oh, and the couple things I have heard about Relapse 2 have been positive. Let’s hope Em can get back to what we’re used to.

This entry was posted byLooks like Rolling Stone was the first to have official tour dates of the upcoming “Fame Kills Starring Kanye West and Lady Gaga” tour. I am excited to see that both artists are going to be performing together, with complimentary sets and no opening act. It seems that both artists have mutual respect for each other’s art, so both decided that no opening act was necessary, which will give the fans more of each artist.
Personally, I am a huge fan of Lady Gaga and her art, and as I have said before, I am a Kanye stan, so you can imagine how excited I am for this tour.
However, we must all shoe gratitude to DJ Reflex because it was him who introduced each other last year.

This entry was posted byLike I have said before, if you cannot make it to Jay-Z’s upcoming September 11th, “Answer the Call” show at Madison Square Garden, then you may still be in luck. As expected, Jay will be making some tour stops in accordance to his upcoming Blueprint 3 album, which will make his fans quite happy. Looks like I will make heading to the November 12th show a priority.
You can check out the complete list of tour dates after the break.

It was 1 year ago today that I made the first post ever on 5 Star Hip Hop. I didn’t know what the hell this site would grow to be or how it would progress. We’ve gone through many changes in this year, from the structure of posts down to a different webhost. I’m very happy that we have grown to be so popular in just one year.
3 million hits, 4,500 posts and 8 hosting changes, later…we still here. Expect for us to keep bringing you the latest in hip hop (& more). Anybody been here since day 1? Month 1? First couple months?
In addition, I’d like to use this post as a platform to get something off my chest; We work extremely hard on the site night and day, every day; we treat the site like a full time job. When we upgraded the server recently to a dedicated server, the monthly cost increase was pretty steep, we came out of our pockets personally to keep the site going. We almost had to shut the site down, but we’re dedicated to bringing you the best in hip hop, so we would truly appreciate if you guys left comments more often providing us with feedback as to what’s hot, what’s not, and just create a cool environment on the site. It is disheartening to put so much work into something and have little to no feedback for the work you put in. Besides the lack of comments, I am truly proud of what the site has become so far. We appreciate the support y’all show to the site on a daily basis and hope y’all continue to visit us.
Lastly,we need to know what you guys want from us, what would you like to see more of? How did you find out about the site? How long have you been visiting?
We definitely have big things planned for the site in the coming months, most of which I can’t speak on as their being finalized and are still in the works, just know we’re working hard to be the best hip hop site out there.
You ready?
This entry was posted byWe are aware that the site has been painstakingly slow this past weekend. Long story short; Mr. 5 Star doesn’t didn’t know much about hosting (I thought the new plan would be faster, but it was just so that we didn’t crash other sites on the shared server, which is what we did last week). This means we are growing pretty fast, so we have to purchase a more powerful server.
Anyhow, 5 Star Hip Hop will move to it’s own dedicated server today, so the site may (most likely will) experience periods of downtime. A move usually takes up to 6 hours to resolve to another server, so the site will be up and down for those times.
We’ll be back running at full (actually faster) speed by the end of the night.
Thanks for the continued support.

This entry was posted byThe first official post of 2009….Happy New Year to you and your loved ones, may you have a healthy and prosperous 2009! Maybe this year your New Years Resolutions will last past February!
If you see somebody doing this in the year 2009:
You have the right to shoot. (not really, yo ass will be thrown in jail)
My fam celebrates Christmas only moderately; no tree (well, a couple times we’ve had one) and no waking up to presents (except when we were little). We usually go to the movies on Christmas, which is a great tradition I look forward to. We do celebrate Kwanzaa every year though. Kwanzaa starts tomorrow, and lasts for 7 days, similar to Hannukah, which is a Jewish holiday, but it lasts eight days instead of seven.
Merry Christmas to you and our family from the 5 Star Hip Hop Family.

This entry was posted byHey, wassup everybody. If anyone visited the site last night, I’m sure you got tired of waiting and left. Our webhost decided it would be extra slow lastnight without any prior warning (and they still haven’t told us what happened). Anyway, Exclusive1 and myself took it upon ourselves to move to a new webhost. So if anything looks out of place in the next 24 hours…that is why. We will be resolving to the new web host later today. (it takes a couple of hours for the new site to show up).
Nothing will really be changed, but you will hopefully notice a faster loading website than before. (and we are also probably going to use this as a chance to finally switch themes). I guess you get what you pay for when you pay $50 bucks for a year of hosting (that’s considered dirt cheap in the hosting world). Haha. I should’ve known it was too good to be true. Anyway, just bear with us as we move to a new webhost.
Thanx
