Fast Forward to 1:14

Yesterday, well respected hiphop producer  9th Wonder came under fire from some twitter gangsters regarding his feelings towards Jay-Z and Kanye West’s Watch The Thrown. As you guys can see, I have been sort of MIA the past couple of months. First I went on vacation in Switzerland; which is the video I posted above.  Then I had surgery and now I am in recovery. Oh, and I broke my netboook.

However, those are not the reasons I stopped blogging as much. To be honest, the majority of the music does not interest me any more. I am one of those people who actually listen to the lyrics of a song.  The other day, ‘I’m On One’ came on BET and my roommate goes, “I love this song.” I say, ” Really? I don’t like it. What is the song about?” (I knew what the song was about, I just wanted to see if he knew) Did this dude say “I don’t know.”  (Pet Peeve) I fell out laughing. So between the whack music that promotes destruction, bullshit drama on the blogs slandering everyone and lack of commenting on posts; it was time for me to take a break. Plus, I am getting my life together spiritually. Will I be coming back to blog more often? Who knows. I just really wanted to share the video I made of Switzerland with you guys. I hope you enjoy it.

This year I feel that numerous stars have come under fire for “copying” other artists. From Nicki Minaj jacking Lil Kim, Rihanna being sued by David LaChapelle for her S&M video,  Trey Songz jacking R. Kelly’s style and vocal arrangement. The list can really go on.

Now Beyonce’s “epic” Billboard performance of Run The World has come under fire for her “copying” Lorella Cuccatini’s Samero 2010 performance. If you are a real fan or music junkie, you will know that Beyonce and Destiny’s Child are notorious  of being “influenced” by other acts (large and small) and giving props to others most times after it has been exposed on the internet. (Sometimes they didn’t give proper credit at all.) I digress, Beyonce responded with the following:

‘My makeup artist showed me the performance of Lorella Cuccarini a year ago, and it inspired me so much’, she went onto reveal ‘I then met with the talented people who worked on it. The technology and concept were so genius. Thank God for YouTube or I would have never been exposed to something so inspiring. I never worked so hard on anything in my life as that performance for the Billboard Awards’.

Update: I am not trying to take anything away from Beyonce’s performance. I am talking about the difference between copying someone and being influenced by someone. The examples I posted above are just examples of individual’s who have been accused of “copying” this year.

My question is what is the difference from copying someone and being inspired by them? What is your opinion on originality and is it really dead? What is the difference between an artist, star and musician? I will post my thoughts later but I am interested to hear what you guys think.

Today Beyonce released a new song to increase the buzz for her upcoming album 4. 1+1 is available on the internet for free for purchase on itunes. Her new album is expected to hit stores on June 28th. Are you feeling this new single?

So I guess T-Pain has decided to release his album after all.  Chris Brown and T-Pain duke it out to win a young woman’s love in this video. See who wins. When will Revolver, hit stores? Who knows.
