JZ and I have watched Wess, formerly known as Wes Blaze, grow into his own over the past two years. As one of JZ’s best friends back in Cleveland Heights (hence the title), Wess wasn’t satisfied with the grind of having an average life. He knew he was meant to be on the mic, and I believe this E.P. is culminating proof of that. His first project we gave you, The Sound of Something Different, was a bit of a crude project(I mean, that cover? haha) that displayed Wess’ raw talent. The Reaching New Heights E.P. has elevated Wess to an entirely new level. In addition to having one of the illest pieces of cover art I have ever seen in my life, the production is much crisper and his lyricism is more refined. On a diversified backdrop of beats, half of which Wess cooked up on his own, the young spitter discusses his issues with staying faithful to his woman, battling to finish his college degree, the pure ecstasy he feels from bringing in dough and the emotions of what family means to him. We want nothing more here at 5STAR than for Wess to continue to progress and build upon his music, so let him know in the C-Section what’s good and what needs improvement. Hit the jump for the video for track No. 5 of the E.P.
